Our Scripture reading today is Nehemiah 8:2, "And Ezra the priest brought the law before the
congregation both of men and women, and all that could hear with understanding, upon the first day of the seventh month."
If you take a few seconds and also read verse one, you will discover that the people
wanted to hear from the Word of God. There was a desire to know what God had
said in the past to Moses. This is exactly what Ezra did in verse two. How is your
desire level to read and hear God's Word? Do you want to open God's Word every
day and ask God for the spiritual food you need? Do you look forward to Sunday and
Wednesday when the Word of God will be preached and taught?
I would encourage you if you have little to no desire regarding the Word of God that
you examine your salvation. Are you saved? If not, this is the problem. If yes, then
what or who has come in the way of your desire for God's Word? Confess and
forsake any known sin in your life. These steps can go along way to instilling or
re-instilling the desire we read about this morning.
