Our Scripture reading today is John 14:16, "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another
Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;"
The Lord Jesus is speaking of the third member of the trinity, the Holy Spirit. Jesus
had just told the disciples that He would be leaving and they were quite disheartened
about the news. When Jesus left, another Comforter would be given to them that
would never leave them. The Holy Spirit would be with every believers all the time and
wherever they went. Jesus could not even do this in His earthly body. “The Advocate will be with the
disciples ‘for ever’. The new state of affairs will be permanent. The Spirit once given will not be withdrawn.” (Morris)
As children of God, we. too, have the Comforter indwelling us until God calls us Home or Christ returns
in the clouds. God is with us by His Spirit all the time. Our strength is in Him. Our hope is in Him. The
Holy Spirit desires to fill us in order that we might follow God's will every day. He is our faithful guide to
all truth. Ask for His filling a new and a fresh today!
