Our Scripture reading today is 1 Kings 18:22-24.

Verse 24, "And call ye on the name of your gods, and I will call on the name of the LORD: and the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered and said, It is well spoken."

We read today of the preparation leading up to a contest between Elijah and the prophets of Baal.  "Elijah gave plenty of advantage to the prophets of Baal. It was thought that Baal was the sky-god, lord of the weather and the sender of lightning (thought to be fire from the sky). If Baal were real, he certainly could send fire from heaven."  The prophet Elijah sets an example for each of us to follow.  He made the wise decision to call on the Lord when he needed a miracle.  The odds were completely against him, but Almighty God is not concerned about any odds.

Whatever you are facing today can be placed in the Almighty hands of God.  He can bring victory out of defeat.  He can bring joy out of sadness.  He can bring peace out of fear.  Call on the LORD today!!

Jeremiah 33:3, "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."
