Our Scripture reading today is 2 Timothy 4:18, "And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil
work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom: to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen."
These are some of the last words the Apostle Paul would pen. Physical death is imminent
and he knows it. His focus is on how he is about to be delivered. Entering the presence of
his Saviour means he will be relieved of all the evil that was surrounding him. Paul
endured a lot, but Christ suffered much more. Paul sought to bring the Lord as much
glory as possible and this included during his imprisoned last days.
If you know the Lord Jesus as your personal Saviour, you will be delivered once and for
all from this wicked world. It will take place when Christ returns in the clouds or
when you breathe your final breath. You, like Paul, are able to say that the Lord shall
deliver me and preserve me. Cheer up my brother and sister! Heaven's gate is just in sight.
