Our Scripture reading today is Job 22:21, "Acquaint now thyself with him, and be at peace: thereby
good shall come unto thee."
These words were uttered by Eliphaz to Job even though Job had not gone away
from God. The trials of Job were not brought on by some sin in his life. We need
to allow this to encourage us as well. Yes, God can and does chastise those who are
saved and walking in rebellion. God also refines those who are living for Him.
Eliphaz did not need to speak this way to Job. Since they are inspired Scripture, there
has been a great benefit to all who have read it. “These words introduce a most exquisite picture of
the blessings consequent on return to God. They do not fit the case of Job, to whom they were addressed,
because he had not left God; and they sound strange coming from the mouth of Eliphaz. Still they are
full of sublime truth.” (Meyer)
The more we know God, the more peace will come over us. How can get better
acquainted with God? It all starts with reading His Word. Reading it intently. Reading it as
if we are searching for buried treasure. Next, we ought to be faithful to the
church services of our local Bible preaching church. God uses the foolishness of
preaching to help us to know Him more. Lastly, we should read good books about
God. There is an endless supply of books written down through the centuries that
help us to know God. These books would be relying heavily on the Word of God as
their resource.
If someone wants to know God, they will. It all comes down to the want to.
