Our Scripture reading today is 1 Corinthians 1:22-23, "For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom: But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto the Greeks foolishness;" It appears the Jews are more logical and the Greeks more scholarly. The message of a crucified Messiah did not go well with their line of thinking. They obviously had a different idea in mind. “Their (Jews) idolatry was that they now had God completely figured out; he would simply repeat the Exodus, in still greater splendor.” (Fee) “Their (Greeks) idolatry was to conceive of God as ultimate Reason, meaning of course what we deem to be reasonable.” (Fee) God does not follow anyone's will but His own. He is all knowing and does everything right. Jesus Christ was God's plan for man's redemption before the foundation of the world. The message we preach is old, but it is also the only correct message for a lost world to be saved.
