Our Scripture reading today is Psalm 147:11, "The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in
those that hope in his mercy."

We have a blessed hope in the fact that every day the mercy of God is new and
available to His children. The heart of the child of God should fear Him and this
is shown in our obedience to God's Word. “Marks of new birth are fear and hope. They fear, for they
are sinners; they hope, for God is merciful. They fear him, for he is great; they hope in him, for he is
good. Their fear sobers their hope; their hope brightens their fear: God takes pleasure in them both in
their trembling and in their rejoicing.” (Spurgeon)

It is by the mercy of God that sinners will not receive the just payment for their sin.
Sin always brings death. Through Jesus Christ, we have life and we have it more
abundantly. The mercy of God allows the grace of God to give us eternal life. Every
day we have hope in His mercy.
