Our Scripture reading today is James 2:26, "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without
works is dead also."
The child of God has the Holy Spirit living in them. God's Spirit will lead the child of
God to live pleasing to the Lord and to do good works. We work because we are saved
not to get saved. We serve because we love God and are thankful for all that He has
done for us. God is worthy of all service. If you claim to be a born again Christian, your
service for God confirms your faith. Are you serving the Lord? “Therefore, if no deeds are forthcoming,
it is proof that the professed faith is dead. Notice that James does not deny that it is faith. He simply
indicates that it is not the right kind of faith. It is not living faith, nor can it save.” (Burdick)
