Our Scripture reading today is 2 Timothy 4:6-8.

Verse 6, "For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand."

The Apostle Paul's time on earth is coming to a close.  He has faithfully finished what God called Him to do  Somehow he knew it was only a matter of time before his departure.  That statement caught my attention this morning.  More for what Paul did not say.  He did not say the time of his death was at hand.  Paul was not going to die.  He was about to become more alive than ever before.  He was going to leave his temporary tabernacle to spend eternity in Heaven.

As born again believers, we have a promise that when we leave our bodies we will be in the presence of the Lord.  2 Corinthians 5:8, "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord."  Paul is also the human penman of this verse.  We, like Paul, can live confidently that physical death leads to life eternal.  This departure could happen at any moment.  All the more reason to live every day seeking for God's will to be accomplished in our lives.
