Our Scripture reading today is Luke 23:5-7.

Verse 5, "And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place."

Pilate's answer of not finding any fault in Jesus did not sit well with the mob of people who were wanting to see Jesus Christ killed.  This multitude was stirred up and ready for blood!  Dr. Luke writes that they were "more fierce."  There wasn't anything calm about this group of people.  What caused all of this anger?  What pushed them over the edge?

They said that Jesus had stirred up the people by His teaching.  What was He teaching?  The simplest answer to that question is TRUTH!  The Lord Jesus 3-year ministry involved many times of teaching and preaching the truth.  The religious elites of the day had about enough of the truth as they could handle.  It brought conviction to their hearts which could have led to repentance, but instead; it led to their fierce anger.  We should learn from this angry mob the importance of receiving truth and allowing it to change us from the inside out.

Truth is ready to set us free!
