Our Scripture reading today is John 9:1-7.
Verse 4, "I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work."
What was the work that Jesus Christ was sent by His Father to do?  Now, Jesus Christ did many works, but there was one specific work that made it possible for every sinner to be redeemed.  His sacrificial death on the cross of Calvary was the work He was sent to accomplish.  Romans 5:8, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us."  We could say that the cross was God's will for His Son.
Every child of God has been saved for a purpose.  There are many works that we should and could be doing for God.  Ephesians 2:10, "For we are his workmanship, created in  Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."  We have been saved to do works.  This is true for every born again child of God.  This truth flows from the work that we were redeemed to accomplish.  Revelation 4:11, "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created."  What a privilege it is to bring pleasure, honour and glory to the One true and living God!  This is our work and purpose!
