Our Scripture reading today is 1 Peter 4:5, "Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead."
We are not living to please men but to please God. We will not be judged by men but we will be judged by God. He is the One we will give an account to. If we have by faith received Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour, then our account was settled at Calvary and the empty tomb. The Word of God considers us to be the quick. 1 Peter 3:18, "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:"
Those people who have not believed on and received God's gift of salvation, will also be judged. Their account is still needs to be settled. It will be settled for all eternity in the lake of fire. Revelation 20:15, "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." This is not a temporary place of judgment. The unsaved will spend all eternity here.
