Our Scripture reading today is Jeremiah 20:9, "Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay."
The prophet Jeremiah was in a place of bondage. He was in the stocks for being willing
to speak the truth. His spirit was low and he was ready to quit. It seems as if he never
made it known in public how low he truly was, but to the Lord, he made it quite clear.
“Under the stress and strain of his sufferings, he was tempted to abandon the work, to refuse to speak any more in the name of Jehovah. But when he attempted thus to find release from suffering in silence, it was impossible; for such silence became more intolerable than suffering.” (Morgan) Jeremiah did stay faithful to His call. He continued to preach whatever word God put in his heart. Jeremiah is someone who we should seek to pattern our lives after. He stayed true to God when things were not going the way he liked. Far too many people today think God should follow their will when it should be the other way around.
God's grace will be more than enough for us to accept whatever God's plan is for our lives. His plan will bring Him more glory and be for our good.
