Our Scripture reading today is Psalm 40:8, "I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart."
The key to doing the will of God is to have the Word of God in our hearts. This is
clearly laid out for us in this verse of Scripture. The psalmist is delighting in the
will of God because God's "law" is in his heart. He is glad to be involved in God's
plan for His life. If we are not spending time in the Word of God, it will be very
challenging to accept the will of God. We must follow the example of our Saviour.
“Jesus not only did the Father’s will, but found a delight therein; from old eternity he had desired the
work set before him; in his human life he was straitened till he reached the baptism of agony in which he
magnified the law, and even in Gethsemane itself he chose the Father’s will, and set aside his own.” (Spurgeon)
