Our Scripture reading today is 1 Samuel 16:7, "But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on
his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the
LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart."
We do tend to "size" people up by what they look like on the outside. This is only a
natural way of doing things. Also, it is true that what is on the inside will reveal itself
on the outside. Luke 6:45, "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which
is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of
the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh."
A lesson we can learn from these verses is that God can and does get glory from the
least likely to serve Him. God knows exactly why we do what we do. He discerns the
thoughts and intentions of our hearts. We must guard our hearts and continue to hide
God's Word inside. Give others a chance to grow in grace. Someone gave you grace
when you were a new Christian.
