Our Scripture reading today is 2 Timothy 4:13, "The cloke that I left at Troas with Carpus, when thou comest, bring with thee, and the books, but especially the parchments."
The Apostle Paul makes it clear what was of the utmost importance to him.  It would seem Paul had very little, but he had what was important.  Yes, he was in need of the clothing he left behind and yes, he wanted the books.  However, his greatest want was the parchments.  More than likely this would have been portions of the Old Testament of the Word of God and could have possibly been some of Paul's own inspired writings.
As we consider all of the things we own, what would be most precious or important to us?  If we could only keep three items, what three items would we chose?  When we hold a Bible, we are holding the completed canon of Scripture.  There is nothing more to add and nothing needs to be taken away.  The Word of God is the quickest and most efficient way to learn about God.  We learn about His love for sinners like us and how we can be forgiven.  We learn about His power and might and so much more.
The Bible you hold in your hand is a gift to be read, studied, memorized and meditated on.  It is to be treasured, obeyed and shared with others.  May we all stand alone on the Word of God!
