Our Scripture reading today is 1 Timothy 4:13, "Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine."
Timothy and the early believers were instructed by the Apostle Paul to give special
attention to several activities. These same three activities are greatly needed in our
lives in 2025. How much time do we give to reading, exhorting, and teaching? The
word "doctrine" means teaching. All three of these activities refer to the Word of God.
The Christian who faithfully sets aside time in the Word of God will be successful in
life. Our exhorting one another can take place in several settings. The primary one
we read of is attending the services of our church. Hebrews 10:25, "Not forsaking the assembling
of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching." We exhort others when we speak to them to encourage or instruct.
We could read this verse in a way that we ought to be involved in these three activities
until Christ comes. And so we should!
