Our Scripture reading today is 1 Chronicles 28:9, "And thou, Solomon my son, know thou the God
of thy father, and serve him with a perfect heart and with a willing mind: for the LORD searcheth all hearts, and understandeth all the imaginations of the thoughts: if thou seek him,
he will be found of thee; but if thou forsake him, he will cast thee off for ever."
David is giving his son, Solomon, a clear command as to how he should live life. First,
Solomon should know God. Second, he should serve God. I believe the order of what
David said is very important. Our goal ought to be the same. Know God and then serve
God. The only way to know God in a greater way is through His Word. "David’s exhortation to Solomon
begins with the most important aspect — emphasizing a genuine commitment to a real relationship with
the living God. David essentially told Solomon, 'The secret of my success has been my relationship with
God. You need to pursue the same relationship'.”
A proper relationship with God will lead to a life long service for God. We must not
get them out of order. If we do, it will result in neither one of them lasting for a
lifetime. Following God's order always leads to success and bringing Him more
glory.
