Our Scripture reading today is James 1:19-21.
Verse 21, Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls."
If you have children or have ever worked with children, you know most of them are attracted to mud puddles.  There is almost a magnetic force that seems to draw them right over to the puddle and then jump in it.  Regardless of the type of clothes they are wearing, the clothes will be filthy.  Possibly some one reading this can even remember being told, "Your clothes are filthy."  In this illustration, the best way to stay clean is to stay as far away from the puddle as possible.
We can translate this into today's spiritual life as well.  They are so many mud puddles of sin in our society.  These puddles are meant to make us filthy with the muck and mire of sin.  When we are born again of the Spirit of God, His Spirit indwells us until the day we die or Jesus Christ returns.  One function of the Spirit is to guide us into all truth.  We read in John 16:13, "Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come."  We can conclude then that the Spirit of God will help us to avoid the puddles of sin that make us filthy.
Stay away from the puddles!
