Our Scripture reading today is Deuteronomy 18:9-11.
Verse 9, "When thou art come into the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations."
The children of Israel were given specific instructions not to allow the lifestyle and practices of the nations in Canaan to become a part of their lives. God delivered them from Egypt to be in the land of Canaan, but not of the land. Unfortunately, they failed to heed this warning and many nations, including the Philistines were a thorn in their side for many generations.
We have been given the same directive from God. Romans 12:2 says, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." God saved us out of this world and its philosophies to be salt and light. My way of living should not be found in the world, but in His Word. Our new life was given to us to serve the King of Kings! 1 Thessalonians 1:9, "For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;"
