Our Scripture reading today is Ephesians 5:25-27.
Verse 25, "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;"
We are reminded this morning that while we can give without loving, we cannot love without giving. This definitely applies to the way a husband is to love his wife. Every husband reading this could love his wife more closely to the way Christ loves the church. What the Lord is speaking to me about this morning is the love He has for the church. He proved just how much He loves the church by giving the ultimate gift, His life.
How much do we love the church? What are we willing to lay down for the church? Remember, the church belongs to Jesus Christ. He is the head. Please look up at verse 23 in this same chapter, "For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body." We can also see this truth in Colossians 1:18. It is important that we love what Christ loves. It is important that we show our love for the church by giving. In what ways are you currently giving to the church? Does your answer prove you love the church? These questions and others are worth our consideration and meditation. I trust each of us are willing to love the church more.
