Our Scripture reading today is Acts 2:41-42, "Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers."
As we seek to be a first century church, it is important that we remain faithful. Dr. Luke tells us that the first church stayed faithful. The words used are "continued stedfastly". There is a list of activities that we need to be faithfully involved in as followers of Jesus Christ. It is unfortunate that many church attendees are seen so little. Being a part of a church congregation goes far beyond attending a Sunday morning service. Church attendance is important and we should be faithful to every service. However, we can "attend" a service and no nothing of those who are sitting right beside us. Could I encourage you this Sunday not to leave immediately after the service? Try and get to know someone. See if you can be an encouragement to a visitor or a regular attendee. You might even be able to pray with someone who has a burden on their heart.
