Our Scripture reading today is Luke 9:1-3.

Verses 1-2, "Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick."

The Lord Jesus called the twelve disciples and equipped them to do the work within the calling.  They had already been following Him since Luke 6, but now there are specific tasks given for them to do.  The disciples would need power, not in themselves, to complete whatever was required of them.  The power was given to them, but they did not know they had it until they went.

God is calling us today to follow Him and be His ambassadors.  He will do with us just like He did for the disciples.  God will enable us to complete whatever task He calls us to do.  It may not seem like we are equipped right now.  I believe this equipping comes a little at a time as we yield to His calling.  We might say the power is in us in the person of the Holy Spirit, but it is not "activated" until we obey God's calling or leading.

Matthew 28:18-20, "And Jesus came and spake unto them saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."
