Our Scripture reading today is Luke 9:59-62.
Verse 62, "And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God."
Not only is there a lesson in ploughing a field, but there is also a lesson on guarding what has our attention.  The Lord Jesus uses an illustration of a farmer to remind us of the importance of a singular focus.  What can we attribute the decline in Christianity to?  Why are fewer Christians attending church faithfully or serving the Lord?  While I have not done an official study, I can confidently say that one issue is with a divided cause or distracted attention.  If I am ploughing a field, I had better not be looking all around the field.  My attention needs to be zeroed in to the end of each row.
If am I a follower of Jesus Christ, I must not allow my cause to be divided.  What is the cause of a Christian?  Where should our attention be placed?  Solomon said it so clearly in Ecclesiastes 12:13, "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man."  This is to be our daily cause.  Our attention must be directed at fearing God and obeying his commandments.  Is your life pointed straight ahead or al you looking all around at what the world has to offer?  The world does have much to offer, but I don't think we realize what damage is being done in the process.  God's will and way promise joy and peace.
