Our Scripture reading today is 1 Peter 5:6, "Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:"
There is a clear admonition to us in this verse that humility is a choice. It is a choice
that must be made repeatedly in life. We can choose to humble ourselves or we can
choose to remain in an attitude of pride. Most of the time, it would seem easier to exalt
ourselves rather than to wait on God's perfect plan of exaltation. When God promises
to do something, we can rest assured that He will perform it. “If you are willing to be nothing God
will make something of you. The way to the top of the ladder is to begin at the lowest round. In fact in the
church of God, the way up is to go down; but he that is ambitious to be at the top will find himself before
long at the bottom.” (Spurgeon)
We can trust in God's "due time". It will be far greater than our planning and timing.
