Our Scripture reading today is Luke 8:49-50.

Verse 50, "But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole."

How quickly the spirit of fear can come over us.  Jairus had just seen a lady healed simply by having the faith to touch the Lord Jesus.  He heard her testimony of years of sickness and finances spent on doctors.  I am sure his confidence level went up a notch while at the same time knowing they needed to get to where his daughter was very soon.  Then came the messenger from home.  Then came the message that brought fear and sadness to the heart of Jairus.  His daughter was dead.  Jesus did not even give Jairus time to say anything.  He encouraged him to simply believe and not fear.

The spirit of fear does not announce its arrival.  The spirit of fear just arrives and no introduction is needed.  It can come through one telephone call or text message.  It can come through one meeting with our company.  Fear is a real emotion, but it does not come from God.  2 Timothy 1:7, "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear..."  Jesus knew that fear and faith cannot co-exist, so He told Jairus, "Fear not...believe only."  Fear must be put away in order that we might fully believe that God is able.  We will not be able to figure it all out, but we can believe that God has plan.  Today, let us all take the advice of the Lord Jesus: "Fear not...believe only."
