Our Scripture reading today is John 8:32, 36, "And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free. If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."
The truth and the Son are one in the same. They cannot be separated. If someone knows
truth, they know Jesus Christ. He is the truth that does not change. When it comes to
having a relationship with God, there is only one truth. There is a promise given of
freedom in this text. Freedom cannot be obtained on our own merits. “So the slave of sin cannot by
himself change his status. He cannot convert himself, nor can he be converted by any fellow-sinner…
The liberator from our bondage must come from outside the ranks of enslaved humanity.” (Tasker)
God's Son made it possible for sinners to be set free and no longer under the bondage of sin. The precious
blood of the Lamb of God, when applied to a sinner's record, washes it white as snow. This gives us a
daily reason to praise God and give Him thanks.
