Today's Scripture reading is Judges 8:26-27.

Verse 27, "And Gideon made an ephod thereof,"

An ephod is a priestly garment, shoulder-cape or mantle, outer garment.  In this passage of Scripture, the ephod was not the problem.  The problem was the people starting worshipping the ephod.  "And all Israel went a whoring after it..."  God had blessed them with an amazing victory over the Midianites.  They were completely outnumbered and yet one the battle.  God should have been receiving the people's worship.  Instead, something man made was being sought after more than the God Who made man.  How many of us are guilty today of doing the very same thing?  We give something God made more of our heart than we do God Himself.  This is a sad commentary for many Christians.  We need to do some evaluating.  We need to make sure God has the throne of our heart!  HE has given us the victory of sin and HE alone is worthy of our worship.
