Our Scripture reading today is Luke 10:35-37.

Verse 37, "And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise."

The lesson the Lord Jesus was teaching reaches its mark in the heart of the lawyer.  He recognizes which of the three in the parable responded properly to the wounded traveller.  Even though he knew which one the neighbour was, it is interesting that the lawyer did not say the word, "Samaritan".  It seems to me that he knew he did not have the love that the Samaritan had and it was now out in the open.

Today, we have an opportunity to follow the command found in verse 37, Go!  As God continues to show us mercy every day, we can and should extend mercy to others.  Psalm 145:9, "The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works."  “The world would be a changed place if every Christian attended to the sorrows that are plain before him.” (Maclaren)

There will be people in our view who need us to be their neighbour.  What choice will we make when the moment comes?
