Our Scripture reading today is Matthew 1:23, "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."
The fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy is found here in the first chapter of Matthew.  It was some 700 years earlier that Isaiah would write, "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel." The Son of God was now living amongst His own creation.  God became man without ceasing to be God.
As we contemplate the meaning of Emmanuel, I pray that we will be encouraged with the truth God is still and always will be with us.  Matthew 28:20, "Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen."  Hebrews 13:5b, "...I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee."  It could be your most joyous moment in life...God is there.  On the other hand, it might be your darkest journey of life...God is there and He loves you just the same!
Take some time today to thank the LORD that He is with you!
