Our Scripture reading today is 1 Timothy 3:1-2.
Verse 2, "A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;"
The word, bishop means overseer, superintendent, or elder.  In the context of these verses it is used in reference to the pastor of the church.  We do not use the word bishop as much today due to the connection it has with the Roman Catholicism.  Basically bishop and pastor can be used interchangeably.  The overseer of the local church is to have the qualities listed in this passage of Scripture.
There is additional application that can be made whether you are a pastor or not.  Today's home is in need of Godly bishops.  I am referring to the husband and wife and or dad and mom.  I lean more on the husband and dad to be the Godly bishop in the home that God has given him.  The husband should lead in a loving, Biblical manner.  (Please read Ephesians 5:22-33.)  In order to be the leader God created you to be, you will need to seek His wisdom and power.
In addition, Anchor Baptist Church is in great need of Godly men to take ownership of an area of service for God.  Ephesians 2:10, "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."
