Our Scripture reading today is Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it."
The question this morning is not if we are training our children but how are we
training our children? There is no doubt in my mind that every parent is training
their children. The key is that our children be trained in the way they should go.
Earlier this morning I read Ecclesiastes 12:3, "Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear
God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man." I cannot think of a more
fitting way to train up our children.
Please know that my parenting time is limited. There are no perfect parents. I do
know that if we are going to train our children in the way they should go, they
will need to see it in us first. Most children hear it, but not a children see it. They
might be young and immature, but they are able to spot a counterfeit a mile away.
When this takes place, it is very difficult for that parent to fulfill the task given in
Proverbs 22:6. We must be the biblical parent before we can rear biblical children.
