Our Scripture reading today is John 1:10-13.
Verse 12, "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"
The Apostle John clearly lays out how we become a Son of God.  He says nothing about church membership or baptism.  He does not mention keeping the law or being kind to the elderly.  While all of the above are good works when done in their place, they are not what open the door to becoming a child of God and going to Heaven someday.  Titus 3:5, "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;"
Our becoming a child of God is dependant upon receiving Jesus Christ as our personal Saviour.  This is a faith decision.  “Faith is described as ‘receiving’ Jesus. It is the empty cup placed under the flowing stream; the penniless hand held out for heavenly alms.” (Spurgeon) We have nothing to offer the Lord Jesus.  He freely gives eternal life through His death, burial and resurrection.
Have you believed on and received Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour?  There is no other way to be a child of God and spend eternity in Heaven.  1 John 5:12, "He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life."
Have a wonderful day!
