Our Scripture reading today is 1 Peter 5:5-7.
Verse 7, "Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you."
We have often quoted verse 7 in times of difficulty and trial.  It seems that we leave out verse 5 and 6.  These two verses are important if we really want the full impact of verse 7.  It takes true humility to be willing to give all of our cares and concerns to the Lord.  When I am full of myself, I think I can handle whatever comes my way.  There is nothing further from the truth.  We ALL need Heavenly help!  In addition, the more we humble ourselves, the fewer cares we will have.  There will naturally be less worry when we are living humble lives.  “All cares of covetousness, anger, pride, ambition, and wilfulness must be cast to the winds; it would be criminal to dream of casting them upon God. Do not pray about them, except that God will redeem you from them. Let your desires be kept within a narrow circle, and your anxieties will be lessened at a stroke.” (Spurgeon)
May we all take time to humble ourselves before casting.  The humble child will have a less difficult time of casting.  The promise is there as well.  God cares for His children!
