Our Scripture reading today is 1 John 3:16-18.

Verse 18 - "...let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth."

I would like to emphasize the word, deed.  Deed = an act:—deed, doing, labour, work, toil.  The Apostle John is stressing the importance that our love be more verbal.  Our love should also be expressed in deed.  If we love the Lord it will be revealed by our deeds.  If we love our spouse it too will be revealed by our deeds.  My true love for anyone will not only be verbal it will also be in deed.  The greatest example of deed love is the Lord Jesus.  He willingly gave His sinless life that we might be redeemed and reconciled.  Isaiah 53:5, "But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."

Today's Growth Principle: The Christian life is not about serving ourselves, but rather sacrificially loving and caring for others.

Look for ways you can love in deed today!
