Our Scripture reading today is James 5:16-18.
Verse 17, "Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain:"
The prophet Elijah would go through challenges and difficulties time and time again.  His response is found in these verses we just read.  Elijah would talk to the only One Who could do anything about it.  Elijah not only prayed, but he prayed earnestly.  He prayed will serious attention, purpose and effort.  Prayer was given and so was an answer.  In verse 16 we read, "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."  The descriptive words given about prayer in these verse indicate that prayer takes time and effort on our part.  We see clearly that the investment of both time and effort are definitely worth it.  God answered Elijah's prayers and God still answers prayers today.
Just yesterday, God answered a prayer that a pastor friend and I have been praying about for well over a year!  Don't stop praying for your unsaved family member or friend.  Don't stop praying for our church and missionary family.  Effectual, fervent prayer still changes things.  To God be all the glory!
