Our Scripture reading today is Luke 8:14-15.

Verse 15, "But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience."

As we go with the precious seed of the Gospel, we pray for prepared soil that will receive the seed and it brings forth fruit in their lives.  The seed and the sower and consistent in this text, but the soil changes.  “O my dear hearers, you undergo a test today! Peradventure you will be judging the preacher, but a greater than the preacher will be judging you, for the Word itself shall judge you.” (Spurgeon)

I found the following to be very helpful and challenging:"We benefit from seeing bits of ourselves in all four soils.Like the wayside, sometimes we allow the word no room at all in our lives.Like the stony places, we sometimes have flashes of enthusiasm in receiving the word that quickly burn out.Like the soil among thorns, the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches are constantly threatening to choke out God’s word and our fruitfulness.Like the good ground, the word bears fruit in our lives."

Even though we are followers of Jesus Christ, we need to keep the soil of our hearts in good condition in order that the Word of God may bring forth fruit for the glory of God!
