Our Scripture reading today is James 2:17, "Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone."

While we all are saved by grace through faith, there will be works as an evidence of that faith.  Living faith is real faith.  If someone really believes something, they will carry through with whatever it is.  “He doth not say, faith is dead without works, lest it should be thought that works were the cause of the life of faith; but faith without works is dead; implying, that works are the effects and signs of the life of faith.” (Poole)

Living faith will lead us to not only read the Word of God, but obey the Word of God.  Living faith applies what it reads or hears preached.  It produces in us a willingness to die to our will and follow the will of God.  We will become action Christians not just verbal Christians.  We will be more like Christ which causes people to see Christ in us.
