Our Scripture reading today is John 20:28, "And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord
and my God."
Thomas was overwhelmed by seeing the risen Christ. This is shortly after him making
the statement that he would not believe anything unless he could see with his eyes. We
tend to give Thomas a hard time and he has even been given a not so flattering nickname.
It might be a good idea to be thankful for the patience God has with us when we doubt
His goodness or His ability to answer our prayers. He is still all powerful and can do
whatever He pleases.
“Thomas now avows the faith which a foretime he had disclaimed. ‘I will not believe,’ said he,
‘except-except- except.’ Now he believes a great deal more than some of the other Apostles did; so
he openly avows it. He was the first divine who ever taught the Deity of Christ from his
wounds.” (Spurgeon) Give credit where credit is due.
