Our Scripture reading today is Luke 7:29-30.

Verse 30, "But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him."

The Pharisees had hardened their hearts toward the teaching and baptism of John and now they were doing the same toward the Lord Jesus.  This meant they were hardened toward the very will of God for their life.  They obviously thought they knew better than the people God placed in their life which meant they knew better than God.

God has done the same for you and me as He did for the Pharisees and lawyers.  He has put men and women in our lives to give us not only their advice but also the counsel of God.  God spoke in time past through the people we read about in His Word.  He is continuing to speak today through His Word, His Spirit and His servants.  Has your heart begun to harden toward a parent?  Has your heart begun to harden toward a pastor and or a member of God's family?  It might be time to pray Psalm 26:2, "Examine me, O LORD, and prove me; try my reins and my heart."
