Our Scripture reading today is Luke 24:49, "And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high."

The power from on high that Jesus Christ was referring to was the power of the indwelling
Holy Spirit.  Up until this point, the Holy Spirit had not in dwelt believers.  There were
times when He would come upon them, but He was not living inside of them permanently.  That
was about to change.  Shortly after Jesus ascended back to His Father, God sent the Holy
Spirit to Pentecost in Acts 2.  There was a mighty moving of the Holy Spirit and from that
point forward, the Holy Spirit has lived inside every born again believer.

Since we have the Spirit of God living in us, we have the power to live victorious lives
for the glory of God.  We have been given the power to say "no" to every temptation
the devil throws our way.  This power was not given for our praise, but to bring more
praise to our Father.  The power of the Holy Spirit also enables us to be an effective
witness.  Every child of God is commanded to be a witness of the Gospel.  Our words
are not powerful, but the Word of God empowered by the Spirit of God will bring about
great change.
