Our Scripture reading today is Luke 8:51-53.

Verse 53, "And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead."

More than likely this group of mockers and scorners had originally been hired to mourn for Jairus daughter who had been very sick and was now "dead".  It was customary in this time to hire people to mourn as it added to the atmosphere of grief at the time of someone's death.  It would seem the mourning quickly turned to a mocking laughter.  What these superficial mourners did not know was that they were about to be out of a job!

Is there something we have tagged as impossible?  Is there someone we have written off as impossible?  Could it be that we have been like these hired mourners?  Maybe we have not mocked Jesus, but we really don't believe what He says.  Jesus said she was not dead.  This meant that after her nap, she was going to rise up.  We will discover tomorrow that she did RISE up.

John 20:27, "Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing."
