Our Scripture reading today is Psalm 143:6-7, "I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth
after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah. Hear me speedily, O LORD: my spirit faileth: hide not thy face from me, lest I be like unto them that go down into the pit."
David provides us with a path that leads to revival. Revival is not a meeting at a
church. Revival is not having a guest preacher come for a week of special meetings.
Revival is always inward before it is evident outward. Revival begins with a hunger
and thirst for God and His will. The Psalmist is clearly longing to know the LORD
in a greater way. Revival also must be proceeded by repentance and humility. David
admits that he is weak and without God's intervention, he will fall.
The hymn writer wrote, "Revive us again; fill each heart with Thy love. May each soul
be rekindled with fire from above." We need a mighty moving of the Spirit of God in
our personal lives which will carry over into the church. Sadly, too many Christians
are anchored into this world and not into Jesus.
