Our Scripture reading today is Jeremiah 8:18, "When I would comfort myself against sorrow, my heart
is faint in me."
Sorrow is inevitable in all of our lives. We live in a fallen world. Where do you find
comfort? Jeremiah warns us where not to seek for comfort. We are not capable of
strengthening ourselves when difficulties come our way. The idea of pulling oneself
up by their bootstraps sounds inspiring, but it is not the way a Christian should think.
We all need the LORD's help. We are weak and He is almighty. We need to rely on His
strength to carry us through.
Isaiah 40:31, "But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall
mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and
not faint."
