Our Scripture reading today is Luke 9:4-6.

Verse 5, "And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them."

The disciples were to take the message of Jesus Christ to the cities and villages He sent them to.  Jesus made it clear that not everyone would be very welcoming to them.  Due to their affiliation with the Messiah some cities would not receive them.  "If Jewish people of that time had to go in or through a Gentile city, as they left they often shook the dust off their feet as a gesture saying, 'We don’t want to take anything from this Gentile city with us.' Essentially, Jesus told His disciples to regard a Jewish city that rejected their message as if it were a Gentile city."

Our responsibility, like the disciples, is not to convince people to turn to Jesus Christ.  We are, however, to faithfully deliver the truth as we go about our days.  If you have ever gone door to door or offered someone a Gospel tract, you know that not everyone receives the Gospel and some people can get quite angry when they realize it is "church" or "religion" related.  While this is never easy to take, we must "shake the dust off" and move on to the next opportunity to deliver the truth.

We are meeting this morning at 10:30.  Would love to have you join us!
