Our Scripture reading today is 2 Timothy 4:2, "Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine."
It matters not what generation we are speaking of, there is a great need for sound Bible
preaching. This type of preaching will not always be liked by its' hearers. Paul said it
should accomplish three things - reproving (convict), rebuking (charge sharply) and
exhorting (to instruct and encourage). The preacher must be willing to preach like this
when it is received and when it is not received. Today, it is not popular to preach the
whole counsel of God. By the way, it is not popular even amongst some "Christians".
In my opinion, it will never be popular again. Truth ought to be contended for in every generation.
We need to pray regularly for all preachers of the Gospel to boldly and compassionately
preach the truth in love!
