Our Scripture reading today is John 8:12, "Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light
of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life."
By continually following the Lord Jesus, we have the light of life that others around us
need. “If a man could travel so fast as always to follow the sun, of course he would always be in the
light. If the day should ever come when the speed of the railway shall be equal to the speed of the world’s
motion, then a man may so live as to never lose the light. Now he that follows Christ shall never walk
in darkness.” (Spurgeon) The world itself is not getting any brighter which is all the more reason that God's
people must keep their lamps (lives) clean so the light of Christ can shine through.
We mustn't allow the filth of the world to have any place in our lives. God desires to
use our life to point others to his love and saving power. The life of the believer is the
beacon of light leading lost sinners to the Light, Jesus Christ.
