Our Scripture reading today is Psalm 23:4, "Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow
of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me."

We spoke of fear last night in the Bible message. It is impossible to control fear coming
into our life. At the most unsuspecting time, fear can appear on the scene of our day.
When it arrives, we have a choice to make. The Psalmist reminds us that fear is not to
be a part of our lives for too long because we have the LORD with us. His rod and staff
provide comfort to the fearful heart. "The Hebrew word for rod (shaybet) here seems to simply mean “a stick”
with a variety of applications. The Hebrew word for staff (mishaynaw) seems to speak of “a support” in
the sense of a walking stick."

God has already provided everything we need in times of calm and worry. His presence alone should bring a
calm over our hearts and minds. Whatever is happening, God is allowing for His glory. He loves us and will
work all things together for good.
