Our Scripture reading today is Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when
he is old, he will not depart from it."
Once again this verse coincides with a lecture in my master's class from yesterday.
Pastor Sexton was teaching on Christian education and he made the statement that
the real youth directors are the parents. How true that statement is. Every parent
has the privilege and responsibility to lead their children to know and love God. I
also heard a statement recently that this individual could tell by the children which
parents were involved in their lives spiritually. If you have children, do they see in
you a love and dedication to God? Do they see you faithfully attending church and
serving the Lord?
“Chanac, which we translate train up or initiate, signifies also dedicate; and is often used for the consecrating any thing, house, or person, to the service of God. Dedicate, therefore, in the first instance, your child to God; and nurse, teach, and discipline him as God's child, whom he has intrusted to your care.” (Clarke)
The current generation needs parents and other adult examples to show them with
their life and lips that God has first place in their life.
