Our Scripture reading today is Matthew 18:15, "Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee,
thou hast gained thy brother."
The Lord Jesus gives a step by step procedure for working through an offense.
How many times have Christians been offended only to go and tell various people
about the offense. This is not what should be taking place. When you are offended,
you are instructed to go directly to the individual who offended you. There is a
possibility that no one else will ever know about it and that would be a good thing.
“We must not let trespass rankle in our bosom, by maintaining a sullen silence, nor may we go
and publish the matter abroad. We must seek out the offender, and tell him his fault as if he were
not aware of it; as perhaps he may not be.” (Spurgeon)
